The Crushing That Produces Glory

What feels like breaking is often the birthplace of anointing.

Key Scriptures

  • 2 Corinthians 4:7–10 (AMP)“But we have this precious treasure [the good news about salvation] in [unworthy] earthen vessels, so that the greatness of the surpassing power will be [shown to be] from God [His sufficiency] and not from ourselves. We are pressured in every way [hedged in], but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair… always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus also may be shown in our body.”

  • Isaiah 53:5 (TPT)“He was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He endured punishment that made us completely whole, and in His wounding we found our healing.”

  • Psalm 34:18 (AMP)“The Lord is near to the heartbroken and He saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

Every anointing has a story, and every story has a crushing. The oil that flows from your life doesn’t come from comfort—it comes from surrender under pressure. The same way an olive must be pressed to release oil, you must walk through seasons of crushing to release what God has placed inside of you.

We often pray for God to use us, but rarely realize what that prayer requires. The oil of anointing doesn’t flow from untouched olives—it flows from those willing to be pressed. Crushing is never random; it’s intentional. The Refiner knows the precise pressure needed to extract what He planted within you.

Paul understood this mystery when he wrote, “We are pressed, but not crushed.” The pressing is not to destroy you—it’s to draw out the glory hidden within you. The crushing exposes what was dormant, refining motives, deepening empathy, and producing a fragrance that only brokenness can release.

When you are crushed, pride breaks, self-sufficiency shatters, and dependence is born. The pieces that fall apart are the very ones that make room for His glory. You discover that the more you are broken before Him, the more His power flows through you.

Jesus Himself was crushed for our redemption. The oil that anointed humanity flowed from His obedience under pressure. The Garden of Gethsemane—the “oil press”—wasn’t just His place of sorrow; it was His place of surrender. There, in agony, He prayed, “Not My will, but Yours be done.” The crushing birthed salvation.

So when you find yourself in your own Gethsemane—pressed by circumstances, misunderstood, or stretched beyond comfort—remember this: the crushing is sacred. It’s the sound of oil being released. Heaven values what the flesh wants to escape.

The crushing season will not last forever, but the oil it produces will outlive you. This is where glory is formed—not the glitter of fame, but the weight of presence. The oil that flows from your surrender will heal others, soften hearts, and light lamps in dark places.

Let the crushing teach you dependence, compassion, and humility. Let it remind you that what’s breaking you is also blessing you. The greater the pressure, the purer the oil—and the deeper the intimacy with the One who holds you through it.

Reflection & Journaling Prompts

  1. What “crushing seasons” in my life have produced the most growth, wisdom, or compassion?

  2. In what ways is God inviting me to see current pressure as preparation for glory?

  3. What new “oil” is beginning to flow from my surrender—anointing, healing, revelation, or empathy?

  4. How can I honor my breaking by turning it into worship instead of bitterness?

Declarations / Activation

Declarations:

  • My crushing is not my defeat—it is my refining.

  • The oil of anointing flows from my surrender, not my strength.

  • Every breaking in my life becomes an altar of glory for God.

  • I will not fear the press; I will trust the purpose within it.

Activation:
Take a small jar of oil today (olive oil, anointing oil, or any fragrant oil) and hold it in your hands. Pray: “Lord, just as this oil was pressed to be poured, I too surrender to Your pressing. Let my life release what pleases You.”
If you feel led, anoint your forehead or hands as a prophetic act, declaring, “From this crushing will come glory.”

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You that even in the crushing, You are creating something beautiful. I surrender my pain, confusion, and fear to You. Press me, but don’t let me break outside of Your hands. Extract from my life the oil that carries Your glory. Let my tears become worship, and my weakness become strength in You. May this season release an anointing that heals others and glorifies Your name. In Jesus’ name, amen.
